Germs reside on everything in your house.  If you have kids, it’s even worse than you could imagine.  Here is a list of surfaces that you might not think carry a lot of germs, but they do.  We also offer some suggestions on how to disinfect these surfaces.

• Remote controls, light switches and game controllers.  These items are touched many times daily by different people and are often forgotten when cleaning the house.  Take an antibacterial wipe and give all of them a good cleaning.
• Purses.  Without thinking about it, you sit your purse down on germ-laden surfaces.  So, it’s not a good idea to sit your purse down on the kitchen counter.  Use an antibacterial wipe or a damp cloth with antibacterial soap to give the bottom of your purse a good cleaning.
• Bathroom surfaces.  Two surfaces in the bathroom that are often overlooked are sink handles and basins—they are often only cleaned once a week.  To instantly kill germs on these surfaces, sprinkle an alcohol-based mouthwash on a cloth and use that to swipe these surfaces.
• Airborne germs.  Germs are always in the air.  To destroy some of these germs, place cotton balls which have been soaked in lavender essential oils all around the house.  It will also give a pleasant scent to your home.
• Toys.  Toys are covered with germs but it isn’t a good idea to use bacterial wipes on them since young children may put them in their mouths.  Instead, wash and/or wipe them down with vinegar.  That will kill the germs while still leaving the toys safe if they are put in the child’s mouth.
